WhatsApp Update: Now Archived Chats Will Remain Muted Forever

Facebook’s messaging app, Whatsapp, has rolled out a new feature for archived chats. The new update in archive chats is that even if a new message arrives in this chat, it will remain archived. Earlier, when a new message arrives, the chat would get unarchived automatically, but not anymore.

Now, all the archived chats will be permanently away from you unless you manually bring them back. In May, the feature was available for Beta users, and now finally, the company has rolled it out for everyone.

Mute Archive Chats Forever in Whatsapp

With this feature, the Whatsapp users will have more control over their inboxes and can organize the archived chat folders. Now, once you put a particular chat in the archived section, that chat will be permanently muted even after it receives a new message.

However, this feature was in demand by many users, as when a new message arrives, the chat was shown in the main chat list, and many of them were annoyed with it. There are times, where you can’t block a particular person, so you ignore them by adding the chats to the archive.

From now, Whatsapp will keep archived chats separate by default. However, you can disable the new settings from the Chats settings menu by disabling the Keep Chats Archived option.

How to Use New Archive Feature in WhatsApp?

  1. Open the “Archived Chats” section from the conversation list
  2. Now, click on the three dots at the top-right corner and select the “Archive settings” option.
  3. There you will see a new toggle of “Keep chats archived.”
  4. Turn it On. That’s it! All the archived chats will be now muted forever until you toggle off this option.

Until the option is enabled, you will not receive any notifications of that chat till you personally visit their profile and open it.

Last week the settings were available for few iPhone users, and now the feature is out for Android and iOS users.

Since April 2019, Whatsapp has been testing the new settings, and now finally, it is ready to use.
