Snapchat has released its OpenAI-powered “My AI” chatbot to its entire user base of 750 million monthly users. Previously available only to the app’s 3 million paid subscribers, My AI now features integration with group chats, customizable avatars using Bitmoji, and recommendations for AR filters and map locations.
Snap CEO Evan Spiegel sees generative AI as an “awesome creative tool” and envisions My AI as a crucial part of the company’s future. Over 2 million daily chats already involve My AI, with 99.5% of replies adhering to Snapchat’s community guidelines. The chatbot also takes users’ self-reported ages into account when responding to prompts to prevent inappropriate interactions.
While the impact of My AI on Snap’s advertising business remains unclear, Spiegel acknowledges that using the chatbot’s interactions for ad targeting could be a future opportunity.
