Amazon Alexa gets Hindi-English Support in India

Amazon had announced last month support for Hindi in Amazon Alexa. The support was not seamless and they couldn’t talk to the Virtual Assistant in Hindi. Now this limitation has been fixed by Amazon’s introduction of multi-lingual mode in Alexa. Before this mode, users had to manually change the language in the Alexa Application.

With the multi-lingual mode on, users in India will be able to speak with Alexa in Hindi and English seamlessly without toggling between the two languages. This feature is available in India starting today. ‘This multilingual mode could be useful in Indian households where users speak both Hindi and English interchangeably. It would be available from October 9.

The feature can be enabled by changing their device language to “English/ हिन्दी” from within the language options in the device settings on the Alexa app. Echo Show and Echo Spot users will also be able to swipe down from the top of the display to access the settings menu and change the language in the latest software update. Or you can just ask, “Alexa, how can I set up multi-lingual mode” and the assistant will guide you through the process.

In case you don’t see the option, you’ll need to make sure that you’re running the latest software. You can easily check for updates by asking, “Alexa, check for software updates”.

This new update by Amazon is a boon for all the Indian users who now can use it seamlessly without having to switch the language for every family member.
