Contact Tracing App Aarogya Setu New Feature Update
Aarogya Setu is an Indian Contact Tracing application that was made by the National Informatics Center (NIC) to help the government fast-track contact tracing of Coronavirus patients and identify new hotspots.
The new update which was pushed out today on Android has added a new button under your Status called “SEE RECENT CONTACTS” in which one can see how many Aarogya Setu users one has come across. In that section, one can even see the status of the other users one has come across i.e if they are unwell, COVID Positive or healthy.
To see the indicative status of the user has to upload the data to the secure servers of the Indian Government. Then only you can see the status of the other users you have come in contact with.
The feature has only one drawback, you can only see the status of the users you have come in contact for 28 days is when you upload the details of yourself to the servers which open a rabbit hole for privacy and the new updated code is not even available on Github so one doesn’t know what details are uploaded to the server.
The application has been installed by almost 13.5 crore people and is now mandatory in Airports for Air travel and in Railways while traveling to another place. The app was made opensource after the protest of the tech community as people were unsure of what details is collected and sent over.
